No cliffhanger warning!

I hate when I read a synopsis and it doesn't tell you To Be Continued. If I would have know this I would have never gotten part one.
All in all it was an ok book. Overworked burned out city girl needs to get away. She quits her job and books a month long trip to a dude ranch in the west. There she meets a couple of hot cowboys, one of which may be the man of her dreams...
I probably won't read book two. If they would have made it all one book then maybe I would but when they try to trick you with a freebie for part one and then ask you to pay for the rest, I don't think so.

just ok

I thought this book (and this series so far) has been just ok. I don't particularly like it when books have the multi-part books (but I will read some of them if I am enjoying enough to continue). However, I thought this book was just alright so far. It may have gotten more interesting for me in future books, but I wasn't really interested enough to find out.

That is the danger in these multi-part books. Its possible that I would have really ended up enjoying this book and this author, but I won't bother to download the rest of the book parts and find out since this first part wasn't that interesting for me. However, if this book had been all together, so that I wasn't taken out of this story to have to go get another part of it, I likely would have kept reading the book until the end (I don't tend to give up on books unless I really hate them).

About the Author
Tim Ernst is Arkansas' Wilderness Photographer. He has been hiking, driving and crawling around the wonderful Ozark Mountains for most of his life, preserving the images he sees on film for everyone to enjoy. His photographs have appeared in hundreds of national, regional and local publications. Some of his credits include National Geographic, Audubon, Backpacker, Outside, Outdoor Photographer, American Hiker, Natural History, Country, Chevy Outdoors, and Arkansas Times magazines, Sierra Club and Hallmark calendars, National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service maps and brochures, Readers Digest Books, and The New York Times. Much of his time these days is spent teaching digital photography workshops in the Buffalo River Wilderness.

Don't hit the trail without it!

Be sure you've looked at this book before you make plans to hit the Ozark Highlands Trail. It helps with planning for the trip, with detailed mileage, ratings, etc. On the trail I kept it within easy reach the whole trip. Great detailing and gives info on the things worth seeing *off* the trail, as well, a real plus. Gives mileage as to how far off the trail a waterfall is, etc. OHT Bible, indeed!

The Authoritative and Only Guide to the OHT

If you want to get the most out of your Ozark Highalnds Trail experience then you need to make sure you have a copy of this book. Written by the man who started it all it is the authoritative and only guide book for the OHT. I have hiked the entire 165-mile trek the last 2 consecutive seasons and I still would not want to be on the trail without it.

About the Author
Robert M. Clark currently is an independent consultant performing threat analysesfor the U.S. Intelligence Community. He is also a faculty member of the Intelligenceand Security Academy and a professor of intelligence studies at the University ofMaryland University College. He previously was a faculty member of the Directorof National Intelligence (DNI) Intelligence Community Officers course and coursedirector of the DNI Introduction to the Intelligence Community course. Dr. Clarkserved as a U.S. Air Force electronics warfare officer and intelligence officer, reachingthe rank of lieutenant colonel. At the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), he wasa senior analyst and group chief responsible for managing analytic methodologies.Clark holds an SB from MIT, a PhD in electrical engineering from the University ofIllinois, and a JD from George Washington University. He has previously authoredthree books: Intelligence Analysis: A Target-Centric Approach (4th edition, 2013), TheTechnical Collection of Intelligence (2010), and Intelligence Collection (2014).

Superb Book

The target-centric approach is all about getting away from the hierarchy of the intelligence process and attacking an intelligence problem by building synergy amongst all invested parties. This book also goes into all aspects of intelligence analysis: source verification, modeling for predictive intelligence, how to present information to policymakers, etc. A very valuable book for anyone interested in the intelligence analysis field.

This book was assigned reading for my Target Analysis Course. My course is still in session for another 4 weeks, but this is a very good book, very enlightening, well written and much to learn that the author has written about.

It arrived right on time and I was very grateful, as my school neglected to send me this book.

A decent overview for students of the topic

I have purchased editions 1-4 of this book, read them all, and think I might finally call it quits. It isn't bad by any means, I really like the breakdowns of basic ideas, and the target model concept is alone worth the price. But I feel like a lot of the really excellent information is pretty sparse, buried deep under layers of historical elaboration. Every time I read the book I come up with 2-3 pages of notes that I can apply.

I completely understand that this book is written more for political students who want a general overview, and who need a lot of examples to see how intelligence analysis has been applied in the past in mostly military contexts. It's not so much for the private professional, someone who doesn't have a team of collection agents or a politicized customer who requires a special version of the truth.

I know that probably means I'm not the right audience for the book. But I also know that the author has it in him to build a really useful guidebook for applying what he writes herein, which makes it frustrating that such a thing simply doesn't exist. I thought Heuer's book on analytic techniques would fill the gap, but sadly that book is light years away from this one in terms of usability.

Wishful thinking on my part, I know. But still... Mr Clark, please give up the goods! I know you have them.

Great Easier Piano Literature

A fine collection of music and indeed there is something for everyone. However don't be fooled by the fine print! I must say that i have been a piano student of 14 years so I have a feel for the different levels of piano. I do NOT consider the literature in this book to range from easy to intermediate levels. I would recomend this book for students beginning perhaps at the intermediate level. This book does not consist of easy litature and i would no recomend this for beginning students. A close friend of mine uses this book and she is an intermediate level player.

The selection of music in this collection is fine. However, I realized once I got it that there are no fingering notations. Probably not a big deal for more advanced students, but an impediment for us beginners.

There is no fingering notation and once where are dealing with pieces for beginners this is something completely frustrating... besides that, with the money spent here I would prefer buy something purely Bach.

But the book is not that bad at all.

Hoyningen-Huene does not merely offer another interpretation—he brings Kuhn's work into focus with rigorous philosophical analysis. Through extended discussions with Kuhn and an encyclopedic reading of his work, Hoyningen-Huene looks at the problems and justifications of his claims and determines how his theories might be expanded. Most significantly, he discovers that The Structure of Scientific Revolutions can be understood only with reference to the historiographic foundation of Kuhn's philosophy.

Discussing the concepts of paradigms, paradigm shifts, normal science, and scientific revolutions, Hoyningen-Huene traces their evolution to Kuhn's experience as a historian of contemporary science. From here, Hoyningen-Huene examines Kuhn's well-known thesis that scientists on opposite sides of a revolutionary divide "work in different worlds," explaining Kuhn's notion of a world-change during a scientific revolution. He even considers Kuhn's most controversial claims—his attack on the distinction between the contexts of discovery and justification and his notion of incommensurability—addressing both criticisms and defenses of these ideas.

Excellent analysis of the difficult details of Kuhn's work.

The author shows that he masters the subject with insight and is able to reconstruct either chronologically or by problems, thesis, objections and possible interpretations, the philosophical work of T.S.Kuhn. He choices to present the reconstruction from a caritative point of view, wich allows him to concentrate into the internal problems of Kuhn's theory of science. In Part I he locates Kuhn's work in the context of the Historiography of Science. Part II concentrates in the problem of scientific knowledge and Kuhn's hard and highly misunderstood thesis about "the construction of the world". Part III develops the subject of the dynamic of scientific knowledge and Kuhn's point of view about scientific progress. It is particulary helpfull to have at hand Kuhn's books while reading Hoyningen-Huene's book because he has a gift for suitable quotation.

Good account of Kuhn's "SSR"

This is an excellent account of the work of Thomas Kuhn - esp. in bringing out the development of his thought on epistemology and ontology as it relates to his philosophy of science. Profitable to read it after The Structure of Scientific Revolutions: A Reader's Guide (Reader's Guides).

Daniel Ventre is an engineer for CNRS, a researcher for CESDIP (Centre de recherches sociologiques sur le droit et les institutions pénales), and in charge of courses at Télécom ParisTech and at the ESSEC Business School. He is the author of a number of articles and works, in France and abroad, on the themes of cyberwar, information warfare, cyberconflict, cybersecurity and cyberdefense.

howler of a wrong claim

Ventre looks at the national policies for information warfare for the US, China, Japan, India, Russia and, some surprisingly perhaps, Singapore. For each nation, he summarises position papers put out by the government, and supplies some analysis and reactions. The most interesting might be for China. We see how China has taken an increasingly confident role in devising strategies and tactics that integrate information warfare techniques with their traditional military. This has been perceived by US analysts as directed against the US in a possible future conflict. All this is given against the backdrop of the 1st Gulf War, where the US military overcame a large Iraqi army in no small part by decisive advantages in the use of information on the battlefield. China took note of the American methods, and realised that it needed to modernise its defense apparatus.

Unfortunately the book is marred by a spectacular howler. In the second page of the first chapter, it quotes from a 1994 book by Schwartau, Information Warfare: Second Edition, "The United States is the target of economic and industrial espionage ... from Japan (which has almost destroyed the American information technology industry in Silicon Valley)" ??? Say what?? That claim was so amazingly wrong, both at the time and now, 15 years later. Silicon Valley would grow amazingly in the 90s, during the dot com boom. The entire dot com boom was started with the invention of the Web and the browser, in 1991-2. Innovations spewed out of Silicon Valley that epitomised the Web. The free browsers. The online auctions (nee. eBay), online bookstores (Amazon), online payments (Paypal), search engines (Yahoo, Google). None of these were Japanese. With the benefit of hindsight, Schwartau's claim was starkly wrong.

But even in 1994, his claim was questionable. At the time, Japan was several years into a recession that started in 1989. Its IT companies took heavy losses, as did US companies like IBM in the early 90s. To blithely assert as Schwartau does that American IT, either specifically in Silicon Valley or perhaps where that was used as a metaphor for the entire American industry, is spurious.

Now you might retort that this was not Ventre's remark. He was merely quoting another author. Yet Ventre does just that, without providing any remarks to the contrary. On the second page of the first chapter. A reader might mistakenly conflate Schwartau's opinion with the author's. Or even when not doing so, which is what I'm doing, by looking at a massively wrong claim put out with no rejoinder calls into question how well Ventre does his own analysis. The icing on this cake is that it appears at the start of the narrative. Tucked away in the middle of the book would have been one thing, and I might perhaps have let it pass. But not at the start.

Un buen libro para entender la Alemania de entreguerras

Es un libro entretenido e interesante sobre el periodo histórico de entreguerras de Alemania . Brinda una visión amplia de todo el aspecto socio-económico político-cultural del país en esos años , abordando temas como la política, el arte , la arquitectura , la economía , la vida cotidiana de la gente etc que analizándolos en conjuntos permite entender como la sociedad alemana cayó en otra guerra mundial .
Si bien la mayoría de los capítulos me resultaron interesantes , unos pocos se me hicieron algo largos y tediosos , por eso lo califico con cuatro estrellas .
