The Anchor is book two in the Holly Springs Series. The Anchor follows Nikki and Parker, the best friends to John aka Suit and Edie from book one of the series.

Parker Hayes is a top of his class law school graduate who is now in New York striving and thriving for a successful career, nothing could knock him off the tracks… But when his best friend from home comes up for a visit for the weekend and brings his fiancee and her best friend, he is blindsided by the beauty of Edie’s best friend Nikki.

Nikki is a beauty queen. She comes from a family of wealth and is a pageant queen, being Miss Holly Springs herself. She does what is expected of her, what her father wants from her. But when she goes up to New York with her best friend Edie and meets Parker Hayes, one extremely sexy romantic night and a shocking secret throws a wrench in both their lives.

“I was worried I’d scare you away. I wanted to make you feel like you were special because even that night, months ago, when I barely knew you, I knew you were a girl that would leave a mark.”

I cannot rave about this book enough! I freaking loved it, making it one of my top books of the year! I have been waiting since last summer for this book to release and now I have to wait a whole other year for the third book to release. As frustrating as it is, it gives me something to look forward to next summer!

Nikki did get on my nerves a bit. She kept pushing Parker away when he was trying to do the right thing, I was screaming at her in my head. I loved Parker, I don’t think he could have done a thing wrong. He stepped up and took his responsibilities like any REAL man would do. I am telling you now ladies, he is book boyfriend material.

Now, I am giving this book four stars, I have my reasons. As much as I LOVED this book, I did feel the ending was a little rushed and of course because there is going to be a third book, it ends in a cliffhanger, which had me pulling my hair out. I was dying to know what happens but I am going to have to wait until book three.

I love B.N. Toler’s writing style and her storytelling is amazing. She weaves in her characters from the first book so perfectly, I loved that I still got to read about Edie and John. The characters in this book just all fit so nicely together. They are best friends that will do anything for one another. And the sex is hot. Can’t forget to throw that in there!

In "Pagan Metaphysics 101, The Beginning of Enlightenment," author Springwolf tells us early on that the information in this book is meant to "empower YOU ...to help you learn how to go within, connect with your own Divine Spirit, communicate with the greater Divine Consciousness, and bring a sense of spiritual wholeness to your being," and through this process, she hopes her readers will "walk through every moment of the day with a sense of higher purposes, greater connection to their spiritual mission, and with insight to meet their personal and spiritual goals." In this mission, she greatly succeeds.

The author begins by asking us to define our beliefs, and gives a solid definition of the origins of metaphysics, or "first cause principles," dating back to the time of Plato and Aristotle.

However, she also gives us detailed descriptions of The Soul Groups, Root Races, and the influence of Atlantis on ancient civilizations, and tells us that this knowledge has "come to be known ...." Known by whom? And how? This bothers me because it is stated as fact, when it isn't necessarily so. Although her bibliography is extensive, I would have appreciated a few footnotes.

Also, I need more than the channeled and researched information of just two individuals to convince me of the reality of Atlantis. (I know, I know, I watch Discovery and H2 too, but the author wasn't any more successful in convincing me of its reality than they were.) However, while she was over my head a few times, her prose still remains accessible and conversational. I cannot fault the author for including theories just because I have not heard of them before, but still, they are the opinions of some, not necessarily all (and not necessarily fact).

She comes down to earth a bit when discussing the similarities between different spiritual beliefs. "We are all trying to advance the human soul toward enlightenment," she explains, and defines how enlightened beings choose to come to earth as Master Teachers, sighting Jesus, Buddha, and Billy Graham as examples. She parallels pagan beliefs with the Christian concept of Heaven and Hell, defining them as "Spiritual, Ethereal Realms," which she believes coincide with the existence of multiple universes that science believes it has proven to exist.

Springwolf has done some interesting chakra work, some of which was new to me. Here, she provides the first of several impressive meditations intended to help the reader absorb her convictions. In the second half of the book, she writes with strong conviction about many different concepts. She describes the "conscious minds," splitting the soul and spirit into two different entities, a concept which was new to me, and I wasn't sure I could quite get my mind around it. Again, the author doesn't just explain a possibility, but provides a hands-on meditation to help the reader incorporate the possibility into his or her life. The meditation helped me envision it.

There are also extensive sections on karma, the effect of free will on the spiritual blueprint, The Akashic Records, ghosts, spirits, and finding your "spiritual sanctuary," where another impressive meditation is provided to help you get there. Not in a million years did I think that would work for me, but I actually got a glimpse of the place, and it was nothing like what I was expecting.

Springwolf makes clear that part of her goal in writing this book is to "fill some gaps or open new avenues of thought that you may not have thought of before." She certainly did for me. You will need an open mind and be willing to work with some new ideas to use this book successfully. An explanation of the roots of every idea mentioned here is not the purpose of this book. Working with the knowledge she imparts is what she tries to do, and does successfully. She balances known theories with original thought well. Springwolf has promised a series on this subject. Based upon book one, I will definitely be back for more.

Interesting Read

If you can get past the chapter about Atlantis (which is filled with some beliefs I had never been exposed to before to put it one way) this book actually contains a lot of good material. This book is a good intro to meditation and the Hindu chakra system as well as other metaphysical concepts. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who is interested in metaphysical studies.

My initial review indicated that this text is outdated in some regards. An oral surgeon contacted me about my initial review and asked me several questions about my opinion on the text. This conversation made me second guess my original thoughts so I spent time and reviewed the text. Following this read, I sheepishly admit that Dr. Sclar's textbook actually a fairly good resource to look at as an introduction to soft tissue management. My original comment about being outdated stemmed from my recent experience at periodontal meetings and multi-disciplinary specialty meetings where other techniques are being taught, but in fact, most of these techniques (not all, but most) are actually discussed in Dr. Sclar's text.

My apologies to those who read my initial review that was not positive regarding this book. After further review I think it is fairly insightful and a good resource for initial information. My only negative comment is that some of the flap designs that are proposed, especially for papilla regeneration or formation, are difficult to achieve. rom a clinical standpoint, in my experience, the papilla preserving techniques around multiple implants have not been very successful -- likely because expecting survival of small flaps with narrow sources of blood supply and with sutures through them is not predictable. Innovative thinking, for sure, but difficult to achieve.

.....up to date with recent literature cited. As a Senior dental student going into OMFS I find it great to use for papers in school or just to expand that good old knowledge of implantology. i'd buy it myself except a little pricey for a poor student!!

About the Author
Daniel Kopec (1954-2016) was an American chess International Master, author, and computer science professor at Brooklyn College. He graduated from Dartmouth College in the class of 1975. Kopec later received a PhD in Machine Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh. With Ivan Bratko he was the creator of the Bratko-Kopec Test, which was one of the de facto standard testing systems for chess playing computer programs in the 1980s. Kopec was one of the most talented home-bred players in the US. Dr. Kopec was New York High School Champion at 14, National Master at 17, Scottish Champion in 1980, 2nd-equal in the Canadian Closed in 1984, and International Master in 1985. He was an active player, journalist, writer, chess educator and scholar. His competitive results with top-flight chess professionals were remarkable. He delivered many chess courses, lectures, published seven highly recognized chess books, and developed eight highly regarded instructional videos (18.5 hours). Over the past 16 years Kopec’s Chess Camp, had become world renowned. In parallel with his chess career, Dr. Kopec had pursued an academic career in computer science with research in artificial intelligence, software methodology, and computer science education. For more than 20 years Kopec tested and evaluated hundreds of human and machine chess players in the UK, Canada, and US in order to quantify their overall chess strength, their specific deficiencies and definite abilities. In bridging his chess and academic interests, Kopec developed a reputation as perhaps the world’s greatest exponent of chess knowledge.

A truly outstanding book. Rather than providing another boring encyclopedia of every game ever played with this opening, Dr. Kopec explains the principles underlying multiple variations of the Sicilian Defense, from the point of view of the Black pieces. His teaching skills are evident, as he discusses pawn structures, and positional and attacking strategies. The illustrative games are instructive and entertaining, spanning the 1800s to the present. I recommend this book for players of any strength.

Those of you interested in this book "Mastering the Sicilian Defense" I WILL QUOTE from its introduction: the first paragraph reads.... "THIS BOOK IS INTENDED FOR THE PLAYER WHO WISHES TO DEVELOP A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SYSTEMS IN THE SICILIAN DEFENSE. It is NOT a book that attempts to cover ALL lines or variations---OR EVEN THE MOST CURRENT ONES. MY GOAL has been to show the MAIN FORMATION (patterns) AND THEMES , which can arise in DIFFERENT Sicilian variations. The book is written DISTINCTLY FROM BLACK'S POINT OF VIEW AND DESIGNED to provide an inherently SOUND and VIABLE opening repetoire. PAWN STRUCTURES , typically arising from these systems, will be presented and discussed...." says the AUTHOR, IM Dr. Danny Kopec.

THIS BOOK IS RE-PRINTED FROM (2001) and STILL useful today. This 217 page book covers most Open, OFF-BEAT and Closed Sicilian Defense PAWN STRUCTURES alive today, but there are SSOOOOO many to choose from, it may be short by most standards. I believe this work could have more of a point with modern game data (2001-11) but the modeled games STILL have poignancy. This is an optimal approach to studying this defense and developing your OWN preferred SD system and playing style. The author gives/summarizes the key points of each discussed Sicilian system with recommendations. I recommend this book for chess players still trying to tread through the fathoms of the Sicilian, strong or intermediate/beginner. Now you have a life-boat filled with rations....avoid the sharks and find land! NUFF SAID........
