If you are interested in this subject, you need this book. It is more than well-illustrated - there are 379 pictures, many in color, mostly of art from the period (rather than extant pieces). The text is dense with information but written in understandable English, rather than academic prose. Both pictures and text cover all kinds of obscure things never found elsewhere. It is totally worth the price - my copy is definitely well-used!

"Ruby" is the most magnificent of all the other V.C. Andrews' titles. I have read all series, and this, undoubtedly, remains on the top of the list. Similiar obstacles as in the other series, in which to overcome, but briliantly written. The writing technique draws you to turn the page continuously, without a moment's pause. The characters will make you fall in love with them or hate them. You will feel their pain, joy, and fears. You will envision each and every step that Ruby takes, as she draws you into the story, only to believe that you are her. I will not refer to the story, in fear that I may spoil what was to me, the best read of all time.

Business textbook takes readers to a different dimension

DESIGNING EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONS review by John Haynes
Not many of us can lay claim to being true paradigm-shifters, but let's give David Banner and T. Elaine Gagne credit---in their book DESIGNING EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONS, they've managed to take the college business textbook to another level. Banner and Gagne do this by incorporating a fairly healthy dose of spirituality in their approach, and the result is a very readable textbook for undergraduate or MBA-level course work.
Basically, DESIGNING EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONS examines organizational structure and processes in the ordinary way but also (and here's where the paradigm shifts) in a subjective, ethical, and-one is tempted to repeat---spiritual way.
What resonates throughout the book is the premise that organizations---like the people who comprise them---cannot be easily or readily quantified. Behavior cannot be predicted with 100% accuracy, and expecting human beings to work and think like machines is completely unrealistic. One has to cut beneath the surface to see the hidden dynamics. What one sees then is that the organization is nothing more than an agreement in consciousness, i.e. an agreement about `who we are', `how we interact with each other', how we deal with authority', etc. Understanding this basic truth ( and its far-ranging implications) results in a smoother operation, a better organizational flow.
For instance, in their book Banner and Gagne profile the organizational styles of unconventional companies like Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc. and Celestial Seasonings, but also examine such "staid players" as Dow Corning, Inc. and IBM. Thrown in the mix you'll find relevant mentions of the human potential movement, entropy, and quantum physics. Believe it or not, the lessons learned from such "out there" disciplines can be of great benefit to business organizations, if only reluctant corporations would open themselves to the possibilities.
From the book: "Science and spirituality are blending as the paradigm shifts; so are spirituality and organization. The Latin definition of spiritus, the root of spirit, is `breath.' In the organizational context, spirituality breathes life into the organization. Harrison Owen, in his article `Leadership by Indirection,' argues that, if we were to get `back to basics,' we would see our organizations as `spirit and flow' and that leadership would be seen as the capacity to `focus spirit and enhance its power.'"

Lets be clear this book is for the MATURE PRACTITIONER! It take someone who is responsible,focused and mature to truly understand the need for darker magick/revenge. We who truly practice the darker art are not spell happy cursing everyone who walk by. This book was written for mature eyes babes will not understand and take offense to anything that slant darker.
This book deal with a great deal of areas like legal matters, nightmares, dealing with elementals, building an altar, familiar spirits and so much more. The author gives a great introduction to the history of Black magick while the book is very straight to the point without being vague. Winter Tempest Books are awesome. I love Llewellyn Publication too, but lets be real their not going to publish a book on real black magick.

So it would do people good to read this book who are not into magick ...

The most unbiased I have read on the black arts. FYI- Real witches do not believe in Christian concept of one God nor the Devil. So it would do people good to read this book who are not into magick to enlighten their perspective on how life was for people back in the 1400's who didn't have a bodyguard or law enforcement, or an attorney, nor a two parent household to help gather food before the harsh winters. They had no means but magick to protect them & their family when things got life threatening. Very impressed with this book!!!!

Best book on improvisation yet.

As a professor I'm constantly looking for good books and good information. I have many books on improvisation and all of them have something valuable. That said,
Ready, Aim, Improvise is the most well organized, complete, sensible and above all, musical book on improvisation that I've seen yet.

Here is a GREAT book !!

Hal Crook, in my view,has been one of the bright stars in college teaching. His book, Ready, Aim, Improvise, is a "must read", by any musician who is serious about becoming a better improviser and consumate musician. The clarity of his ideas, no non-sense approach to developing as a musician is simply one of the finest texts I have read in over 35 years of teaching. It has been out there since 1999 or so, and remains a cornerstone in the field of jazz studies. I know I am not the first to say Thanks Hal !!!!

Looking for the Meaning of Life?

This book is a wonderful read for anyone who wonders, worries or agonizes about the meaning of life, and whether they're doing it "right." Psychotherapist Kopp wrote this book in 1972, but it still works today.
Whether giving or receiving therapy, this book reminds us that we are all humans -- nobody has all the answers. The eschatological laundry list (which I've seen roaming around the web, but never attributed to Kopp) has become a classic.
1. This is it! 2. There are no hidden meanings
3. You can't get there from here, and besides, there's no place else to go
4. We are all already dying and we'll be dead for a long time.
5. Nothing lasts!
6. There is no way of getting all you want.
7. You can't have anything unless you let go of it.
8. You only get to keep what you give away.
9. There is no particular reason why you lost out on some things.
10. The world is not necessarily just. Being good often does not pay off and there is no compensation for misfortune.
11. You have the responsibility to do your best nonetheless.
12. It is a random universe to which we bring meaning.
13. You don't really control anything.
14. You can't make someone love you.
I'll stop there -- there's more in the book, and if you find the list discouraging, you need to read the book. If you find the words encouraging, you need to read the book. Add it to your list of books to give friends who are feeling glum and hopeless.
Use it as a group discussion book!
After reading this (at different stages in my life), I still find it centering and soothing. A good addition to the self-help library, along with The Road Less Traveled.

Literate discussion of the freedom born of self-knowledge.

The subtitle, "The Pilgramage of Psychotherapy Patients," belies the essence of this highly literate hymn to authenticity and self-governance: each of us must look within to find our own answers. Drawing from the Bible, the I Ching, Siddhartha, Jung and too many others to name, the author urges that living fully requires us to let go of concepts of fairness, perfection and control and embrace the uncertainty and ambiguity of our journey. A liberating, thought provoking paean to autonomy, self acceptance and personal growth. Life Changing!
