About the Author
Thom Hudson is Professor in the Department of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawai'i. He received his MA degree in TESOL and Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics at the University of California at Los Angeles. He has taught in Hawaii, Cairo, Egypt, the U.S., Guadalajara, Mexico, and Japan.

Disappointment

I was considering this book for an MA level L2 Reading Seminar, but was disappointed to find that it is mainly a review of studies from the past with little pedagogical focus, little current ideas or directions for the future. The research-focused volume may help me in preparing for discussion, but is not appropriate for MA level students. There are also far too few diagrams and figures for a 21st century audience. Incidentally, the text is dry and I'm not sure I could get students to read it if I assigned it anyway.
The research in putting this book together is breathtaking, but unfortunately it misses the mark as an MA level text.
